Wesley True was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, and first became interested in becoming a chef while working as a line cook at Grocery underneath James Beard award-winner John Currence. True then pursued his culinary degree at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Upon graduating, True proceeded to work in some of the most highly-acclaimed kitchens in Manhattan - most notably, the Danube, Bouley, Aquavit, Mesa Grill and Public Restaurant. Armed with the knowledge and passion he gained in New York, True returned to Alabama to open his own restaurant named True, where his love of coastal southern cuisine was born out of using seasonal and locally sourced products. At True, he was able to make his mark on the culinary industry, and was nominated for a James Beard Award - Best Chef South 2011-2012, as well as being recognized as a AAA four diamond award-winning restaurant. True has been featured in publications such as Garden & Gun, Southern Living, USA Today, and CNN.
After True and his wife relocated to Atlanta, True was selected as a contestant for the Emmy-Award winning reality show, Bravo’s Top Chef. When True returned from filming Season 13 of the show, he became friendly with Ford Fry, a chef and restaurateur in the Atlanta area. Their friendship merged into a business relationship, and True took the lead of the culinary team at The Optimist, one of Fry’s seafood restaurants in Atlanta.
Now a seasoned leader in the kitchen, True joins Point Royal as Executive Chef where he plans to transform diners’ experiences by careful attention to detail, both in and out of the kitchen.
